Faktain News – Lampung Province is on the cusp of a significant milestone, poised to launch its inaugural international flight service connecting Lampung directly to Malaysia. Operating through Raden Inten II Airport with TransNusa airline, the maiden flight is scheduled for February 12, 2026, marking a new era for air connectivity in the region.
Bambang Sumbogo, Head of the Lampung Province Transportation Agency, confirmed the first flight will depart from Raden Inten II Airport bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 11:00 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
Speaking on Monday, February 9, 2026, Sumbogo expressed confidence in the readiness of the operation. He stated, “Almost all operational requirements have been met. Only one remains from the Ministry of Defense. Since it must fly according to schedule, God willing, the inaugural Lampung–Kuala Lumpur flight can proceed on February 12–13.”
Regular Service and Initial Flight Patterns
Sumbogo further explained the initial flight rotation will follow a Jakarta–Lampung–Kuala Lumpur–Lampung–Jakarta sequence. Following this inaugural journey, the international route is slated to operate regularly twice a week.
“Regarding regular flights, they will likely operate every Monday and Thursday. So, from Lampung, it will go directly to Kuala Lumpur with that specific aircraft rotation,” he clarified.
Future Plans: Umrah Flights on the Horizon
Beyond the new regular international route, the Lampung Provincial Government is also preparing to introduce Umrah pilgrimage flights from Raden Inten II Airport. However, the realization of these Umrah flights will commence after Eid al-Adha.
“For Umrah, it will be after the Hajj Eid because pilgrims have already purchased all their packages at this time. So, it can only begin after that period,” Bambang added.
Initially, Umrah flights are planned to utilize the Lampung–Malaysia route as a transit point before pilgrims continue their journey to Jeddah or Madinah. Nevertheless, the Lampung Provincial Government aims to establish direct flights from Lampung to Madinah in the future.
He explained, “Initially, it will likely be Lampung–Malaysia first, for transit, then on to Jeddah or Madinah. But we are striving for direct flights from Lampung straight to Madinah.”
With the commencement of this pioneering international flight, the Lampung Provincial Government harbors strong aspirations. They anticipate a significant boost in air connectivity, fostering growth in the tourism and economic sectors, and greatly facilitating the mobility of Lampung residents towards international destinations.
