The search and rescue operation for JDSP, a 27-year-old citizen of Brazil who was previously reported to have fallen on Mount Rinjani, has ended with sorrowful news. The joint SAR team discovered the victim deceased on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at a depth of approximately 600 meters in a ravine.

Confirmation of the Discovery

Head of the Mataram SAR Office, Muhamad Hariyadi, explained that one of the personnel successfully reached the victim’s location in the ravine around 600 meters down at approximately 6:00 PM WITA at the datum point. “After an initial examination, no signs of life were found on the victim,” Hariyadi stated.

The confirmation of the deceased status was reinforced after three other personnel followed down and verified the victim’s condition. The body was then immediately prepared for evacuation.

“Following this discovery, the SAR team at the last known position, or the victim’s last seen location, immediately prepared an evacuation system,” he added.

Challenges and Overnight Stay for Evacuation

Seven personnel conducted a flying camp or overnight stay near the location, with three people at the second anchor point (400 meters depth) and four others beside the victim (600 meters depth).

The decision to postpone the evacuation was due to unfavorable weather conditions and very limited visibility. The evacuation process resumed this morning, Wednesday, June 25, 2025, and the body is planned to be lifted upwards first.

Evacuation Plan and Next Steps

“Then, it will be evacuated by stretcher along the climbing route towards the Sembalun Post,” said the Head of the Mataram SAR Office when met in Sembalun.

From the Sembalun Post, the body will then be evacuated using a helicopter to Bhayangkara Hospital of the NTB Regional Police for further handling. The entire team hopes that the evacuation process to be carried out this morning can run smoothly and safely as planned.
